Braavos Capital is an international private investment organization founded by Roy Sebag. We employ a value-oriented investment approach that leverages our permanent base of capital to identify opportunities that we believe exhibit asymmetric risk-reward profiles.

We are known to be contrarian and invest in both private and public companies with a focus on natural resources, distressed event-driven opportunities, and increasingly disruptive technology models with a direct-to-consumer focus.

Our Name "Braavos"

The Free City of Braavos is a mythical city from the novel: “A Song of Ice and Fire” written by George R. R. Martin. The 7 Volume series is set in a mythical world that has three continents: Westeros, Essos, and Sothoryos. Westeros is governed by the kleptocratic families who control the 7 Kingdoms. These kingdoms engage in the accumulation of long-term debt for the purpose of funding various wars, political maneuvering, and other acts of folly. The continent of Westeros commands great armies and political power, yet exercises too much control over the lives of its citizens. Not surprisingly, the citizens of Westeros genuinely believe that they are at the center of the universe, economically, culturally, and militarily.

Far across the sea in the Continent of Essos lies the free city of Braavos where citizens are free from rule and enjoy prosperity through capital trade and economic prudence. Interestingly, all the major kingdoms in Westeros are indebted to the Iron Bank of Braavos and its citizens as the small city through prudence and trade has accumulated the majority of the world’s capital which it actively lends via the Iron Bank for the benefit of its citizens.

Though a work of fiction, we are inspired by the principles that drive the mythical city of Braavos to global prominence and have built our organization by operating under the belief that prosperity can be achieved through prudence, hard-work, and a lifetime pursuit of wisdom.
